Jones Taliaferro, a prominent representative of commercial pursuits at White Oaks, also interested in mining, came to this place in May, 1880, and during the first year of his residence here was engaged in prospecting. He also did a contract business in mining supplies and in 1884 he was elected clerk of Lincoln county, in which position he served through the four succeeding years. In 1885 he purchased the mercantile business of the firm of Robson, Young & Bogard, which had been established in 1880. He has since conducted this enterprise, removing from Lincol to White Oaks in 1888. The store is a large and well appointed establishment, in which a good lien of general merchandise is carried and its neat and tasteful arrangement together with reasonable prices and earnest desire to please his patrons have secured to the proprietor an extensive and growing trade. He belongs to Baxter Lodge No. 9, K. P., at White Oaks.

OBITUARY: CARRIZOZO OUTLOOK; article dated, MAY 7, 1909
Excerpt; “. . . Jones Taliaferro, of White Oaks, died at his home at 5, P.M. on Wednesday, May 5th from Bright’s disease. Mr. Taliaferro has up until recently, been in the mercantile business in White Oaks and was a man much liked and well spoken of by all who knew him. . . . The funeral will be held in White Oaks this afternoon at 3 P. M., Rev. Mr. Tricky of this place having charge.. . . “

Jones’ brother, Micajah was in charge of White Oaks newspaper, ‘Golden Era’. He later became part owner. He eventually moved back to Illinois.
