White Oaks is the largest town in the county, and the seat of an important supply trade. it is finely situated in a valley, among the spurs of the Carizo range, at an elevation of 6,470 feet above sea level. It has two religious organizations, Methodist and Congregationalist, a large and prosperous public school, and one flourishing Academy; two weekly newspapers, eight prosperous mercantile establishments, two hotels, one billiard hall three blacksmith shops, (two also wagon shops,) one tin shop, two roofing establishments, two livery stables, two meat markets, three hotels, three physicians, three law offices, one dentist, one 20 stamp gold mill in operation, also 2 Huntington Centrifugal mills, and a 10 stamp gold mill.
