U.S. U311 postal stationery used from White Oaks, New Mexico Territory to El Paso, Texas. This cover was posted Feb. 25, 1889 and received in El Paso on Feb. 28 as shown on the scan. The cover was opened slightly irregularly at top and has a small tear in the back flap.

White Oaks was a mining boom town in the 1880s, but is a ghost town today. Only a few buildings survive today, but the famous No Scum Allowed Saloon still operates in one of them. Ed. R. Bonnell, served as an Assistant Quartermaster-General in the local Grand Army of the Republic post.

This is an early example of New Mexico Territory postal history. Condition is fine-very fine or very fine.
