I sent you the copy of the letter where one of my Great Grandmother Ethel Lund (Howard) childhood friend from White Oaks mentions that she rented a buggy at the Livery in White Oaks one day.
I would love to figure out who this woman was that wrote her that letter. She was in White Oaks as a little girl. My Great Grandmother was there from 1900 until 1905 but had family there since the 1880s and also family that stayed on so she visited White Oaks too. But this lady who was her friend must’ve lived in WO from 1900-1905 for sure and she says in this letter that she is 84 years old when sending it to my grandmother in 1978 so maybe she was born in 1892. That is the only clue I can pick up from this envelope and letter.
Her return address appears to be the name of her late husband with a MRS. on the front as in Mr.s G. E. Odell. She is saying in the letter that her husband has passed away. Perhaps we can find her by her age in White Oaks at the time, her birth year or maybe her husband/and her had obituaries out there.
I do remember that of the girls that my Great Grandmother played with in White Oaks, the Ziegler girls were her friends from the Zeigler/Ziegler store. Might be one of those girls.
The lady addresses my Great Grandmother Ethel as “Etto” in quotes and signs the letter from “Heddo” so maybe her name begins with an H Maybe Helen or something… just guessing.
It’ll be fun to figure out and keep the whole letter on your site. I can scan whole letter, but only has small mentions of White Oaks, but I still think it’s a cool piece of history.
Letter date is post marked Feb 22, 1978 so figure lady is 84 on that date. 🙂
