Lieut James Ellison Sligh

When Lieut James Ellison Sligh was born on July 30, 1841, in Claiborne, Louisiana, his father, George, was 32 and his mother, Emily, was 22. He had one son and two daughters with Mary Levenia Louise Butler. He then married Victorline Josephine Hutte and they had four children together. He died on July 17, 1923, in Long Beach, California, at the age of 81, and was buried in Hollywood, California.

He served in the War Between the States as a Lt. in Company B, Twenty-Eighth Infantry Regt, La. – Confederate
He was a member of UCV. His wife Mary L. Sligh,was a member of UDC. He was the son of George Benedict Sligh and Emily Bell Canfield. He married first to Mary Levenia Louise Butler, she died March 30, 1890 in Lincoln County, New Mexico and is buried in the Cedarvale Cemetery, White Oaks, New Mexico. He married 2nd to Victorlina J. Hutte in 1892 in Washington. She died April 3, 1942 in Los Angeles County, California.
