John A. Brothers was born in 1834 in Carroll, Ohio. He married Catherine Angell on August 8, 1858, in Oakwood, Illinois. They had three children in 15 years. I inquired a member on Ancestry.com about John A Brothers the Hostelry and she replied 10-29-2020

Hi: John A. Brothers is NOT my direct line. His 1st Wife Catherine Angell was my 3rd Great Aunt. So, I do not have an photos of John A. Brothers. I do have some of the pages from his Civil War Pension. His wife Catherine Angell was able to collect from it after John died, even no John A. Brothers had abandoned her. She had never married after John and why he left her in Illinois with there 3 boys, while he moved to New Mexico is a mystery. Perhaps he went looking for gold and just stayed there. If you want I can always send you an invite to my family tree, if you want to check out what I have on John A. Brothers. I have NOT connected him to his parents yet. I have not seen real proof that he was related to Levi Brother in Ohio. The only person that might be related to John A Brothers is a Stephen Brother who may be a brother. They were both in the 1860 United States Census for Vermillion Co., IL. They were living next door to each other. So, they probably are related, but how is NOT proven. He could have been a cousin.
